Routine dental cleaning and check-ups
Even the most diligent daily brusher and flosser still needs regular professional cleanings, A.K.A. dental prophylaxis, performed by a skilled dental hygienist. Although proper brushing and flossing will remove most of the plaque that forms, it is impossible to totally eliminate it because our bodies produce plaque continuously. Undisturbed plaque will harden and attach to your teeth. These hard deposits are called calculus or tartar. Once attached, it cannot be removed by brushing and flossing but must be removed with special dental instruments. Complete removal is essential because tartar is a significant factor in the progression of inflammatory periodontal disease which can lead to other serious problems both medical and dental.
A routine visit with our hygienist includes
- Professional dental cleaning
- Periodontal screening for gum disease
- Digital dental x-rays (if necessary)
- Oral cancer screening
- Oral hygiene instruction
